Osteoarthritis Remission

Remission means that the level of your disease activity has been measurably reduced to the point where the disease is no longer active. While remission is possible in RA and, in fact, is the goal of RA treatment, OA is generally not discussed in terms of “remission,” primarily because there are no treatments to date that can halt the disease progression. How fast the disease progresses differs from person to person.

Thus, while OA can be managed and the symptoms relieved or reduced, we do not have available therapies to effectively stop its progression. There are medicines as well as non-drug therapies described in these guidelines that can help you manage your OA and its symptoms, and can help to reduce its impact on your daily life. Your doctor can work with you to develop an OA treatment plan that is right for you
